June Solstice 2024 Cosmic Update
The energetic currents will affect us individually, depending on our sensitivity to the energy and our unique cosmic ‘wiring’. There are some general themes, however, that will be prevalent for all of us. Understanding this can help us to deal with anything that shows up and seems beyond the reach of our usual bounds of control.
On Thursday 20th June at 21.51pm (BST), (20.51 GMT) we have the exact point of the summer solstice. In the northern hemisphere, this is the moment at which the earth is tipped on its rotational axis at its closest point towards the sun. It marks the longest day of the year with the maximum amount of daylight.
The solstice points have an energetic as well as astrological significance. We live our lives with the rhythm of the rising and setting sun which is energetically our life force. The light from the sun affects our DNA and powerful light emissions can shift and change the frequency of the energy field that we are part of. At this time of year, the light of the sun is at its most powerful in the northern hemisphere and we can be profoundly affected by the increase in energy.
Astrologically, the summer solstice occurs at the time the sun moves from the sign of Gemini into Cancer. We may feel a distinct shift from a rather hectic pace of multitasking, communicating and trying to understand issues, towards a more sedate and introverted energy.
Whilst the sun is in the sign of Cancer, we are more focused internally and may retreat into ourselves, much like the tendency of a crab. The energy is more focused on our home environment and is often described as ‘maternal’ or nurturing. Whilst this may not be true for everyone – we are, after all, at the height of summer and may be out socialising and partying. There is a softer and less frenetic energy to be enjoyed.
Both Venus and Mercury are also transiting the sign of Cancer, so we could find that we are more emotional with our communication. Our attentions may be focused on our homes whilst in our relationships we may be a bit more needy and sensitive to any upsets.
Almost immediately after the Solstice in the early hours of 22nd June at 2.07am (BST) we have a full moon also on the Cancer / Capricorn axis.
This is an incredibly powerful full moon, occurring so close to the solstice point. It is also unusual in that it is the first of two full moons in Capricorn. (The second will occur on 21st July with the sun and moon in the last degree of Cancer and Capricorn.)
There is a magical element to this full moon, but the phrase ‘be careful what you wish for…’ is rather apt. We are encouraged to set our desires and make wishes at the time of a full moon, however this one comes with a degree of caution. Something we have been working towards for a very long time may come to pass but it could require us to pay a heavy emotional price. The energy of both Neptune and Pluto are also in dialogue, creating what could be a sense of disillusionment as we are forced to transform an aspect of our lives.
Always pay attention to what comes up around the time of a full moon as it is a spotlight on what we ought to be focusing on in our lives.
